The Shotokan Karate-do International South Africa (SKISA) was established in 1978.The Founder, president and chief instructor, Sonny Pillay – Hanshi, has led the organisation from inception. The Headquarters of the organisation is in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal. Branches exist within the following regions: KwaZulu-Natal; Gauteng; Western Cape; Northern Cape & Mpumalanga. International presence is enjoyed in: Singapore; India; Malaysia; Mauritius; Australia; Sri Lanka and Canada.
The organisation currently enjoys a huge following in South Africa.The president of the organisation is Sonny Pillay – Hanshi, who is a master with an 8th dan black belt via grading by legendary Professor Kanazawa (the only karate teacher of Indian origin to receive this rank) and 8th Dan conferred on him by the World Karate Federation (WKF)
Sonny Pillay – Hanshi is the President of Karate South Africa (KSA) and Commonwealth Karate Federation (CKF), he is also an executive member of the World Karate Federation (WKF) Technical Commission (one of eleven from around the World).
